Today is about second, 100th chances. Thank You all for your love and prayers and emails and comments. I love hearing from you. Makes the whole experience of truth-telling that much more powerful. The Guild School for those of you who don’t know, is a local early intervention school for children and families with special needs. They do some pretty amazing work with these kids. Everything from speech therapy to physical therapy, social stimulation, the list goes on. For me, it’s all about the village. I wholeheartedly believe in community and I’m excited at the prospect of friends-yet-to-meet and the fellow travelers we’ll meet along the way. It was a small and helpful glimpse into our new world of friends. Monday will reveal the next step for his heart. If there has been growth and the hole looks to be closing then we can wait to watch the other ones too. If not he’ll be looking at heart surgery. Either way deep down in my heart I know he’ll be just fine. Sometimes you just know.
I just finished Martha Beck’s tremendous book, “Expecting Adam.” It gave me a place to laugh and cry about Down Syndrome. If there wasn’t so much to giggle about it would be for me, overwhelmingly sad.
When we begged the question of which medical text to read so that we could best prepare for life with Hobbs our nurse practitioner recommended this best-selling biography. I’m suggesting you go to your local library and borrow a copy. Since we’re now on the topic of books I’d also like to give a shout out to “The Happiness Project,” by Gretchen Rubin. I’m in about 34 pages and curious to see where it goes from here…”act more energized in order to feel more energized.”
Reading for fun is something I forget about. I forget how much joy it brings to me. In making a little more time for things that bring me a happy boost I have begun to read during Otto’s nap while nursing Hobbs. Its not always the most uninterrupted reading, but I’m doing it and reaping the benefits of the small voice inside saying, “I’m alive! Thanks for feeding me!” Soul food baby.
“Keep coming back, it works if you work it!”
